Reformed Churchmen

We are Confessional Calvinists and a Prayer Book Church-people. In 2012, we remembered the 350th anniversary of the 1662 Book of Common Prayer; also, we remembered the 450th anniversary of John Jewel's sober, scholarly, and Reformed "An Apology of the Church of England." In 2013, we remembered the publication of the "Heidelberg Catechism" and the influence of Reformed theologians in England, including Heinrich Bullinger's Decades. For 2014: Tyndale's NT translation. For 2015, John Roger, Rowland Taylor and Bishop John Hooper's martyrdom, burned at the stakes. Books of the month. December 2014: Alan Jacob's "Book of Common Prayer" at: http://www.amazon.com/Book-Common-Prayer-Biography-Religious/dp/0691154813/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1417814005&sr=8-1&keywords=jacobs+book+of+common+prayer. January 2015: A.F. Pollard's "Thomas Cranmer and the English Reformation: 1489-1556" at: http://www.amazon.com/Thomas-Cranmer-English-Reformation-1489-1556/dp/1592448658/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1420055574&sr=8-1&keywords=A.F.+Pollard+Cranmer. Round-up on 2004 Freak Show: C.J. Mahaney the High School Bore, Boor, and Buffoon

Survivors Blog afforded a few videos that pay homage to SGM's Narcissist-in-Chief, C.J. Mahaney.  The man isn't well and his character left an imprimatur on the narcissism of the movement.  "Feelins'...just about those feelins'..."  It's Americana.  We've thought about this loon since Jun 2011.  We've done a full circle.  We ended our investigation in Dec 2011.  (It's like working in a toxic waste dump.)  Our preliminary assumptions were not changed, but confirmed:  loud, narcissistic, Neo-Anabaptists, or Baptacostals.  There has been a strong strain of anti-intellectualism amongst many of them as well.  That's Baptacostalism's legacy also.  Thank God for colleges, universities, including seminaries--all of which Mahaney has never attended and to which he gives full evidence of those deficiencies--where inter-disciplinarian thought and inquiry continues.  Mahaney's mountebankery and gesticulatory wavings and vocal manipulations (along with the lack of content) were akin to carnival barkeries for enthusiasts.  But enough there.  Having said these few things, important psychological, sociological, financial, legal, historical, confessional, musical, creedal, liturgical, educational and theological questions are outstanding, but given our utter boredom with these boors and bores (including many of their lemming-followers), we have more substantive matters to investigate.  "Reap what you sow in abundance.  If you love being a sophmore and backwoods enthusiast, enjoy the fruits."

Kris says:

There are some interesting Sovereign Grace Ministries videos floating around out there in cyberspace. The following is from Covenant Life Church’s 2004 “Milestone Weekend,” a celebration of C.J. Mahaney as he bestowed the job of senior pastor upon Joshua Harris:

The same evening, Bob Kauflin performed a very special song for his dear friend:

Brent Detwiler gives his review.  If this is 2004, this positive review does not comport with the reality described in the Detwiler documents, emails, and other primary materials on the same period.
