Reformed Churchmen

We are Confessional Calvinists and a Prayer Book Church-people. In 2012, we remembered the 350th anniversary of the 1662 Book of Common Prayer; also, we remembered the 450th anniversary of John Jewel's sober, scholarly, and Reformed "An Apology of the Church of England." In 2013, we remembered the publication of the "Heidelberg Catechism" and the influence of Reformed theologians in England, including Heinrich Bullinger's Decades. For 2014: Tyndale's NT translation. For 2015, John Roger, Rowland Taylor and Bishop John Hooper's martyrdom, burned at the stakes. Books of the month. 5 May 1836 AD: Birth of Mr. (Rev.Dr.Prof.) Johann Friedrich--the Roman Professor Excommunicated for Denying Papal Infallibility

5 May 1836 A.D.  Mr. (Rev. Dr. Prof.) Johann Friedrich born.  A Romanist, he denied Papal Infallibility as decreed at Vatican 1.  He joined with Cardinal Dollinger.  Mr. John Henry Newman, a new join to Rome, was not happy either.

Johann Friedrich (1836 to 1917)

Old Catholic

Excommunicated for Denying Popes Infallibility.

Birth of Johann Friedrich in Germany. A theologian and professor of church history, he was excommunicated in 1871 by the Roman Church for refusing to accept the doctrine of papal infallibility. Consequently, he became a leader in the Old Catholic movement which did not accept this tradition either. The scholarly Friedrich helped form the Old Catholic Theological Faculty at the University of Berne.
