Benjamin Robert Veitch
Mar 6, 1993 - Jul 20, 2012 |
“LORD, thou hast been
our refuge: from one generation to
another” (Psalm 90:1)
Benjamin Veitch, my
nephew, age 19, was found dead yesterday morning, 7/20/2012, at 0600 by his
mother, my sister-in-law, Robyn Veitch. Robyn, a Registered Nurse, engaged in CPR to no avail. Communications
this morning have been established with my brother, Benjamin’s father, Robert Mark
Veitch. My brother had been traveling due to business in the south. A 2-car convoy of the
Veitch-clan from eastern North Carolina will travel to Detroit tomorrow. Aside from Mark and Robyn Veitch, the
parents, their four daughters and one son-in-law (Erin, Sarah, Kristina, and Anna), there will
be dozens of cousins involved. Having seen enough in my time, I have my "theological sea legs." My concern continues for my brother's immediate family, but also for the dozens of cousins. We
request that you keep the Veitch-clan in Grosse Point, MI, in your prayers.
We offer an old school
Anglican Prayer.
“O
God, whose days are without end, and whose mercies cannot be numbered; Make us, we beseech Thee, deeply sensible of
the shortness and uncertainty of life; and let Thy Holy Spirit lead us through
this vale of misery, in holiness and righteousness, all the days of our
lives: That, when we shall have served
Thee in our generation, we may be gathered unto our fathers, having the
testimony of a good conscience; in the communion of Thy Church; in the
confidence of a certain faith; in the
comfort of a reasonable, religious, and holy hope; in favor with Thee our God, and in perfect
charity with the world. All which we ask
through Jesus Christ our LORD, Amen” (Reformed Episcopal Book of Common Prayer, 1873, p. 507).
Here is the obituary from the funeral home is as

The constant refrain is a prayer for “those in peril on the
sea.” The Veitchs in Michigan will be
navigating stormy seas, a heavy sea state, rolling billows and trials. Metaphorically, they are in “rough seas.”
Here are the lyrics.
Eternal Father, strong to save,
Whose arm hath bound the restless wave,
Who bidd'st the mighty ocean deep
Its own appointed limits keep;
Oh, hear us when we cry to Thee,
For those in peril on the sea!
O Christ! Whose voice the waters heard
And hushed their raging at Thy word,
Who walkedst on the foaming deep,
And calm amidst its rage didst sleep;
Oh, hear us when we cry to Thee,
For those in peril on the sea!
|
|
Most Holy Spirit! Who didst brood
Upon the chaos dark and rude,
And bid its angry tumult cease,
And give, for wild confusion, peace;
Oh, hear us when we cry to Thee,
For those in peril on the sea!
O Trinity of love and power!
Our brethren shield in danger's hour;
From rock and tempest, fire and foe,
Protect them wheresoe'er they go;
Thus evermore shall rise to Thee
Glad hymns of praise from land and sea.

“Brother Mark, Sister
Robyn and my beloved nieces, our sorrows and tears...from the eastern NC
Veitch-clan...are multiplied through this day, 21 Jul 2010. I'm an old, retired
Sailor and Marine. I've seen alot in my time. Seen enough. I've conducted many
Marine and Navy funerals myself. Acquainted with griefs and sorrows. I buried
my Dad "without a tear," "without blinking," but not this
time. I've got em' today. We shed tears here. 4-5 times for me. We'll be there
soon. Traveling tomorrow following Divine Worship (an unquestionable duty) here
in eastern NC. ETA in Detroit on Monday soonest...about 1400-1500. Will
establish comms with Uncle Mark tomorrow from the road. Our profoundest
condolences, love and assured prayers. We love you all. We extend our love to
you all, Uncle Phil”
