Reformed Churchmen
We are Confessional Calvinists and a Prayer Book Church-people. In 2012, we remembered the 350th anniversary of the 1662 Book of Common Prayer; also, we remembered the 450th anniversary of John Jewel's sober, scholarly, and Reformed "An Apology of the Church of England." In 2013, we remembered the publication of the "Heidelberg Catechism" and the influence of Reformed theologians in England, including Heinrich Bullinger's Decades. For 2014: Tyndale's NT translation. For 2015, John Roger, Rowland Taylor and Bishop John Hooper's martyrdom, burned at the stakes. Books of the month. Ms. Schori on the Subject of Heresy
As St. John reminded us, many antichrists have gone out into the world. Regrettably, the language of our time does not admit to the use and application of such a term. Fortunately, we do not hesitate to call Ms. Schori “anti-Christian” and is another “anti-Christ” A few snippets are offered from VOL.

The Presiding Bishop of TEC spoke about the crisis facing The Episcopal Church. "Crisis is always a remarkable opportunity," she said. Being a pilot herself, she said it is a time to "aviate, navigate, and then communicate." More wisdom was aloft as she advised keeping “the plane flying through the crisis-even when you are not sure where you are.” This much, an admission that a crisis is at hand and the TEC doesn’t know where its going.
She hilariously described the crisis as akin to Jesus' decision to set his face toward Jerusalem (Luke 9.51), and likened the decisions of this 76th General Convention to that decision to set one's face toward Jerusalem. Can it get any worse than this? For the depressed, this is better than Prozac and is guaranteed to induce humour and mild bouts of scoffing.
The Rev. Phil Ashey is Chief Operating Officer for the American Anglican Council and brings a few insights.
Rev. Phil Ashley reports, “And then in a cold, calm, defiant and defining voice she [Ms. Schori] said, `The individualistic focus on reciting a personal formula about Jesus Christ as Savior is a heresy.’" Don't worry about the "Thirty-nine Articles." There go the ecumenical Creeds.
Phil Ashley asks again, “Did I just hear the Presiding Bishop of the Episcopal Church dismiss as heresy the confession of millions upon millions of Christ followers, from the Apostles to St. Augustine to the Wesleys to the GAFCON gathering of Anglicans last year to the Fellowship of Confessing Anglicans in the Church of England meeting in the UK right now to the multitudes throughout our own Anglican Communion who are invited to make a personal confession of Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior-and who do so daily, often at great personal cost, as their churches and provinces explode with growth in numbers and mission?”
Where has Ashley and other conservatives been? This type of theology for the liberals is old-stuff. Here’s another Ashley argument.
“How is it that a Church which has done everything to remove `heresy’ from its vocabulary can now so confidently proclaim that confessional Christianity is heresy?”
This question is mis-guided but appropriate to TEC. Liberals have always had their own orthodoxy, heterodoxy and heresy. We find the credulity a bit much for those who have read the history of liberalism.
Nevertheless, it’s good to see and hear Schori’s anti-Christ positions.
