Movie Review: 2016 Obama’s America | #SOTR
I honestly could not wait to see this film. So much so that in hot anticipation of a sold out show, we bought our tickets on Fandango three days ahead. So glad that we did because the show was indeed standing room only. And by the way, it’s the number one seller on Fandango.com.
Anti-Obama Doc Tops Online Ticketer Fandango 2016: Obama’s America is selling more advanced tickets than any other film, Fandango said. The feature, which is based on conservative author Dinesh D’Souza‘s book The Roots of Obama’s Rage, expands nationwide Friday after posting solid numbers in limited release. ~Via MovieLineWhile the film has been showing for three weeks in rolling openings, this weekend 2016 is showing in 1000 theaters. That’s just 1/3 of the number of screens that a mainstream Hollywood blockbuster has at the three week point. Conservatives across America are selling out theaters for a glimpse into the mind of the leader of the free world. The film does not disappoint.
Dinesh D’Souza narrates the film from his perspective as an immigrant from India. He very carefully and intelligently articulates that Americans expect improvement and upward mobility in our society. So much so that we do not fully appreciate the very idea that a society can and should improve indicates a superior national mindset. Where we see room for improvement, many immigrants see a land of milk and honey that is near perfect in comparison with their native land. I would liken it to a person constantly surrounded by beauty becoming a bit immune to it. America to me is that ultimate field of natural weeds; wild and free, in which you take the good with the bad, the ugly with the beautiful. But the wild free nature also means that you are never stuck in a caste or idea of who you are. You dream the idea of your self big, successful and powerful. Then you work hard, preparing yourself for the lucky moments that can only come your way in a wild free country like ours.
The anti colonial leanings of Mr. Obama senior (an ever-present theme in 2016) were assiduously passed on interestingly enough to Barack by way of his Marxist mom. She was careful to insulate him from any positive view of capitalism, creating a cocoon of antithetical ideas that would be foundational for him as he grew up and followed the path his mother laid out for him. The documentary is wary of demonizing President Obama, treating him fairly on some points that I won’t spoil for you. Nonetheless, the impartiality acquits Mr. D’Souza of any claims that he’s unfair or hateful in his treatment of the subject.
Of note is the care with which D’Souza investigates President Obama’s past traversing the globe in search of details that the media our ever-present fourth estate simply never cared to look into.
The most important part of 2016 is towards the end when D’Souza’s knack for looking into our nations future is on full display. Make no mistake the future under a second Obama presidential term is worse than bleak. Do not delay, purchase tickets to see this film. If you must, drive a couple of hours to the nearest metropolitan area and see this film. 2016 Obama’s America is the most important movie you will see this year, be you American, or any other nationality, because as America goes, so goes the rest of this world.
About 2016: Obama’s America
2016 Obama’s America takes audiences on a gripping visual journey into the heart of the world’s most powerful office to reveal the struggle of whether one man’s past will redefine America over the next four years. The film examines the question, “If Obama wins a second term, where will we be in 2016?”
Across the globe and in America, people in 2008 hungered for a leader who would unite and lift us from economic turmoil and war. True to America’s ideals, they invested their hope in a new kind of president, Barack Obama. What they didn’t know is that Obama is a man with a past, and in powerful ways that past defines him–who he is, how he thinks, and where he intends to take America and the world.
Immersed in exotic locales across four continents, best selling author Dinesh D’Souza races against time to find answers to Obama’s past and reveal where America will be in 2016. During this journey he discovers how Hope and Change became radically misunderstood, and identifies new flashpoints for hot wars in mankind’s greatest struggle. The journey moves quickly over the arc of the old colonial empires, into America’s empire of liberty, and we see the unfolding realignment of nations and the shape of the global future.
Emotionally engaging, 2016 Obama’s America will make you confounded and cheer as you discover the mysteries and answers to your greatest aspirations and worst fears.
Love him or hate him, you don’t know him.
