Reformed Churchmen

We are Confessional Calvinists and a Prayer Book Church-people. In 2012, we remembered the 350th anniversary of the 1662 Book of Common Prayer; also, we remembered the 450th anniversary of John Jewel's sober, scholarly, and Reformed "An Apology of the Church of England." In 2013, we remembered the publication of the "Heidelberg Catechism" and the influence of Reformed theologians in England, including Heinrich Bullinger's Decades. For 2014: Tyndale's NT translation. For 2015, John Roger, Rowland Taylor and Bishop John Hooper's martyrdom, burned at the stakes. Books of the month. December 2014: Alan Jacob's "Book of Common Prayer" at: http://www.amazon.com/Book-Common-Prayer-Biography-Religious/dp/0691154813/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1417814005&sr=8-1&keywords=jacobs+book+of+common+prayer. Kentucky Boy Turned Anglican, Ray Sutton: Media Archive

Baptist Kentucky Boy, Ray Sutton
(far right) with other Tractarians.
Bp. Iker, second from left.
A Baptist Kentucky boy, named Ray Sutton, spent four years at an Anabaptistic, Dispensationalist, Revivalist, non-Confessionalist and non-liturgical school in Dallas, TX, that is,  Dallas Seminary, c. 1976ish.  Ray was never reared in Reformed theology, the confessions, or piety.  He was from revivalism.  He was a "man without roots."  Somewhere along the line, he turned to Reconstructionism and Theonomy, pastoring a hothouse for those things in TX.   There are some bad stories about Tyler, TX and Westminster Presbyterian Church, but Ray was there.  In the mid-90s, he found "all things Anglican" and moved towards the Reformed Episcopal Church (REC).  Roy Grote, an REC Bishop, made Ray purge his manifold posts on the internet in behalf of Reconstructionism.  He, Ray, along with Leonard Wayne Riches, moved the REC towards Anglo-Tractarianism.  REC lost her identity.  Then, the "knives" put to the backs of many RECers to accomplish Leonard and Ray's agenda was painful as Professors and the faithful were driven off.  Here's a resource archive from Ray's church in Dallas, the ex-Baptist-ex-Presbyterian-ex-Theonomist-turned-ex-evangelical Anglican-turned Anglo-Catholic.  What's next?

Charlie,
I am coming to believe that we should think of the Anglo-Catholic problem as Mercersburg Theology... as a way of faking being Reformed.
