Reformed Churchmen
We are Confessional Calvinists and a Prayer Book Church-people. In 2012, we remembered the 350th anniversary of the 1662 Book of Common Prayer; also, we remembered the 450th anniversary of John Jewel's sober, scholarly, and Reformed "An Apology of the Church of England." In 2013, we remembered the publication of the "Heidelberg Catechism" and the influence of Reformed theologians in England, including Heinrich Bullinger's Decades. For 2014: Tyndale's NT translation. For 2015, John Roger, Rowland Taylor and Bishop John Hooper's martyrdom, burned at the stakes. Books of the month. December 2014: Alan Jacob's "Book of Common Prayer" at: http://www.amazon.com/Book-Common-Prayer-Biography-Religious/dp/0691154813/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1417814005&sr=8-1&keywords=jacobs+book+of+common+prayer. The next is a two-part set. Two Papist attacks on Martin Luther. Tired of these Papists' inability to exegete Romans 3.28--they just don't get it. Sola fide, while not in the text verbally, is there in concept. Justified apart from/without the works. Nuff said. Poor.

In the next video: "The main issue that drove Martin Luther to post his famous 95 theses on Oct. 31 1517 was the practice of selling indulgences (essentially "pay the church, your sin is forgiven"). However, the theological avalanche that followed would flow far and wide through established Church theology and tradition. Man's condition, justification, the priesthood, confession, authority of Scripture -- these areas were all brilliantly reconsidered by the Reformers." Contains excellent quotes.

An excellent documentary follows. Numerous competent scholars appear in the next several sets. Of note--as an Anglican here, Alistair McGrath, Oxford, makes an appearance. Some excellent photos. Excellent commentary. Good musical background. This 2002 documentary chronicles the life of Martin Luther, from his childhood, to his days as an ascetic Catholic monk, to his stance as the voice of reform from within (and, finally, from without) the Catholic Church. This may be the best set in this post. It has twelve parts and is about 2 hours in length.

Coral Ridge Presbyterian presentation. A quote from their site: "October 31, 1517 a young monk named Martin Luther nailed 95 theses to a church door in Wittenberg, Germany.He touched off what became the Protestant Reformation and changed the world forever. Gary Cass, chairman of the Christian Anti-Defamation Commission, challenges modern Christians to begin standing boldly for biblical truth—as Luther did."

The Reformation Polka
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b4TeJJmQJqU&feature=related
The lyrics are for the Reformation Polka, a justifiable assault on that false gospeller and Antichrist of Rome (not rhetoric, but Gal.1.6-10):
When I was just ein junger Mann I studied canon law;
While Erfurt was a challenge, it was just to please my Pa.
Then came the storm, the lightning struck, I called upon Saint Anne,
I shaved my head, I took my vows, an Augustinian! Oh…
Chorus:
Papal bulls, indulgences, and transubstantiation -
Speak your mind against them and face excommunication
Nail your theses to the door, let’s start a Reformation!
Papal bulls, indulgences, and transubstantiation!
When Tetzel came near Wittenberg, St. Peter’s profits soared,
I wrote a little notice for the All Saints’ Bull’tin board:
“You cannot purchase merits, for we’re justified by grace!
Here’s 95 more reasons, Brother Tetzel, in your face!” Oh…
Chorus:
Papal bulls, indulgences, and transubstantiation -
Speak your mind against them and face excommunication
Nail your theses to the door, let’s start a Reformation!
Papal bulls, indulgences, and transubstantiation!
They loved my tracts, adored my wit, all were exempleror;
The Pope, however, hauled me up before the Emperor.
“Are these your books? Do you recant?” King Charles did demand,
“I will not change my Diet, Sir, God help me here I stand!” Oh…
Chorus:
Papal bulls, indulgences, and transubstantiation -
Speak your mind against them and face excommunication
Nail your theses to the door, let’s start a Reformation!
Papal bulls, indulgences, and transubstantiation!
Duke Frederick took the Wise approach, responding to my words,
By knighting “George” as hostage in the Kingdom of the Birds.
Use Brother Martin’s model if the languages you seek,
Stay locked inside a castle with your Hebrew and your Greek! Oh…
Chorus:
Papal bulls, indulgences, and transubstantiation -
Speak your mind against them and face excommunication
Nail your theses to the door, let’s start a Reformation!
Papal bulls, indulgences, and transubstantiation!
Let’s raise our steins and Concord Books while gathered in this place,
And spread the word that ‘catholic’ is spelled with lower case;
The Word remains unfettered when the Spirit gets his chance,
So come on, Katy, drop your lute, and join us in our dance! Oh…
Chorus:
Papal bulls, indulgences, and transubstantiation -
Speak your mind against them and face excommunication
Nail your theses to the door, let’s start a Reformation!
Papal bulls, indulgences, and transubstantiation!
