Reformed Churchmen

We are Confessional Calvinists and a Prayer Book Church-people. In 2012, we remembered the 350th anniversary of the 1662 Book of Common Prayer; also, we remembered the 450th anniversary of John Jewel's sober, scholarly, and Reformed "An Apology of the Church of England." In 2013, we remembered the publication of the "Heidelberg Catechism" and the influence of Reformed theologians in England, including Heinrich Bullinger's Decades. For 2014: Tyndale's NT translation. For 2015, John Roger, Rowland Taylor and Bishop John Hooper's martyrdom, burned at the stakes. Books of the month. "Strange Fire" & Costals: Is T.D. Jakes Different Than "Pulpiteers of L.A.?"

http://exitchurchianity.com/2013/10/16/is-t-d-jakes-really-any-different-than-the-pulpiteers-of-l-a/

Is T.D. Jakes REALLY Any Different Than The Pulpiteers Of L.A.?

I always find it interesting when wolves try to distance themselves from other wolves, and pretend that they have a higher level of integrity.

Take for instance, when Benny Hinn “rebuked” Joel Osteen and called him a “coward” for floundering Larry King’s question about whether Jesus is the only way to the Father.

Is Hinn really that much different than Houston’s “smiling preacher”?

benny and joel

Does Hinn have any spiritual or moral-standing to speak against Osteen, when there’s bad fruit hanging from his own tree? For example, his ungodly character traits, false doctrines and false prophecies, lying signs and wonders, financial corruption and exploitation, drug use, and ecumenism [i.e., his unholy alliance with Catholicism]?

“Do not judge others, and you will not be judged. For you will be treated as you treat others. The standard you use in judging is the standard by which you will be judged. And why worry about a speck in your friend’s eye when you have a log in your own? How can you think of saying to your friend, ‘Let me help you get rid of that speck in your eye,’ when you can’t see past the log in your own eye? Hypocrite! First get rid of the log in your own eye; then you will see well enough to deal with the speck in your friend’s eye.” (Matthew 7:1-5)

In the same message, Hinn strutted across the stage like a proud peacock and called Oprah a “sick woman” for saying that “there are many paths to god.”  After criticizing the queen of the media, he claimed that he doesn’t care if anyone likes him or not for telling the truth because he’s “blunt.”

Well, if Hinn is really as impartial and willing to tell it like it is no matter who likes him or not, then why hasn’t he rebuked all of his partners in crime on
The Babylonian NetworkTBN? Especially Paul and Jan Crouch. And why didn’t he rebuke his Christ-denying Interfaith idol, the late “pope” John Paul II? [Click here to see a video of Hinn honoring John Paul II]

I already know the answers. I’m simply asking rhetorical questions to get professing Christians to think more carefully about these things and not be so gullible and quick to “amen!” when false prophets grandstand against other false prophets.

Paul-Jan_Crouch

Benny Hinn and his ilk aren’t about to mess up their cashflow and pursuit for power by speaking against movers and shakers in the religious-system. That’s why he didn’t rebuke John Paul II, and that’s why he won’t reprove Paul and Jan Crouch or any other prominent leaders on TBN.

But with so much scandal and controversy swirling around him, Hinn had to do a little damage control. . . . he had to do something that would make him look good. . . something that would offset the speculation that he’s a false prophet — yet without losing his spot on TBN and blowing the cover of his comrades — so he got on stage and huffed, and puffed, and blew a lot of self-righteous hot air against Joel Osteen.

Now we have T.D. Jakes trying to distance himself from what he called “junk on TV” — the docu-series Pulpiteers of L.A. [aka "Preachers of L.A."]. Check out the article here.

T.D. Jakes isn’t the only leader sprinkling his Sunday morning messages with damage control statements about Pulpiteers of L.A. Andy Thompson, the top leader and founder of World Overcomers Christian Church in Raleigh/Durham, North Carolina also made a statement this past Sunday that “the devil is using Preachers of L.A. to discourage the body of Christ from giving to the kingdom.”

Why are leaders shook up over a little rinky dink reality TV show when “greater is He who is in us than he who is in the world”?

Why are Jakes and Andy saying that the devil is behind this show when they support the leaders on it and teach the same concepts?

Why are they more concerned that the show might discourage people from giving than they are about the lifestyles these men are living and the poisonous teachings they espouse?

Where was their discernment way BEFORE this show came out, back when these leaders first started dragging Christ’s name through the mud and bringing reproach upon the Household of Faith? So now that they’re on Oxygen, all of a sudden the devil is using folks?

What is really going on here?

Here’s the run down. . .

The WOF [Word Of Faith]/prosperity movement swept across the churchworld like a tsunami, taking millions captive to one of the most demonic pseudo-Christian belief-systems on earth — all the while, emptying out the bank accounts, purses, and wallets of the folks in the pews.

Judging by the fruit of the WOF/prosperity movement, it’s aim is clear: to financially empower the leaders who promote it at the expense of undiscerning followers who have much less than them. Check mate.

While poor and middle class WOF supporters face the tough reality of living from check to check, falling behind in their bills, and being unable to pay for their children’s college tuition — they sow thousands and millions of dollars into the corporations of leaders who tell them to just “have faith in God” for their miracle, breakthrough, harvest, or season.

While they “name it and claim it, “decree and declare,” misuse the Bible like a spellbook, and recite positive affirmations to manifest their desires, their leaders hoard millions of dollars hand over fist and live in the lap of luxury in the here and now.

Many people have known for a long time that WOF/prosperity theology is mainly about enriching its leaders. It’s so painfully obvious that people have even invented a term to describe such leaders: pulpit pimps.

WOF leaders promise their followers that in due time, their prosperity will “trickle down from the head.” But it doesn’t take a Bible scholar or deep discernment to see that the money is trickling UP from the peasants at the bottom to the “spiritual elite” at the top of the church feudal system.
This rapid influx of cash into the hands of leaders isn’t a fruit of the Gospel or the work of Christ, but a pyramid $cheme.

The WOF/prosperity movement has been heavily exposed as a hustle for a long time now. So at this point, WOF supporters are faced with the exhausting task of constantly defending their so-called “men and women of God” and trying to explain away or rationalize their bad fruit, inconsistencies, and glaring contradictions.

WOF supporters must deal with agitating articles, videos, tweets, facebook statuses, and exposés on TV about their leaders. It must be very irritating, frustrating, and upsetting to live in a state of cognitive dissonance and suppress the truth in unrighteousness, all for the sake of defending false prophets and a bankrupt belief-system that has been proven a sham.

And now WOF supporters and their leaders are faced with the docu-series Pulpiteers of L.A. And they are definitely not happy campers.

You see, WOF leaders have been denying that they live lavishly at the expense of their poor and middle class followers. But now there is a TV show parading so-called “men of the cloth” flossing their decadent lifestyle and speaking openly of the “church” [their corporations that is] as a BUSINESS.

And of course, for the most part, the public’s reaction [both Believers and nonbelievers] hasn’t been favorable.

Now that people are seeing churchianity’s version of the “haves and the have nots” — leaders who espouse WOF/prosperity theology [like Hollywood Jakes and Andy Thompson] are a little frazzled and worried that their followers might wake up and suspect that they’re guilty of the same pimpery. . . . and people might be discouraged from giving to
Babylon the Harlot“the kingdom of god [with a lowercase "g" on purpose].”

Pulpiteers of L.A. is casting even more light on the lifestyles of the rich and famous in churchland, as well as the theology and methods they use to siphon cash from supporters.

As for Jakes’ self-righteous Pharisaical statements in the article, let it be known that his woman-thou-art bound conferences, and megaINFESTED conferences are no better than the docu-series he called “junk on TV.”

It’s hypocritical of him to criticize Pulpiteers of L.A., while standing on the very same stage that he financially solicits viewers from and begs them to “sow a seed” into his corporation.
Watch the video below to see Jakes fast-talking sales pitch.

He told congregants and online viewers “You did not buy what I got,” and claimed that “not one dime” of their money paid for his suit, car, and house. When the money that paid for those things came from the same poor and middle class supporters who watch him on Sunday and listen to his messages. Who is buying his books? Who is buying his movies? Who is paying for tickets to attend megainfested? Is it not mainly T.D. Jakes supporters? Yes.

Jakes then ran down a list of ‘charitable deeds’ that *his* “ministry” has accomplished. When I read this list, I noticed that he didn’t mention God/Jesus anywhere. He kept saying “I, we, I, we, I did it, we built it, this ministry, this ministry, this ministry.” Even Jesus glorified the Father and said that He couldn’t do anything without Him — yet Jakes kept speaking of himself and what his corporation built.

He ended his diatribe by saying “I do not need you to buy my car. I got this.” How disingenuous. Without his supporters buying his books, movies, megainfested tickets, and the rest of his “junk,” he wouldn’t have been able to buy his luxury vehicles, mansions [including the $1.4 million dollar mansion that he bought for Chris Hill], expensive suits, plane, airtime on TV, or travel to Africa to spread his deadly mixture of WOF/prosperity theology and self-empowerment teachings to poor Africans.

Unfortunately, Potter’s House congregants fell for Jakes grandstanding hook, line, and sinker. They were mesmerized, amening, shouting, and high-fiving each other — not realizing that their interfaith leader is no different than the men on Pulpiteers of L.A.

It’s easy for him to diss “junk on TV”, when Oprah “many paths to god” Winfrey has him in her back pocket and showers him with all of the fame that he’ll ever need. Who needs “Preachers of L.A.” when they have the most powerful woman in the media?

Don’t be fooled. Jakes is doing everything that the “preachers” of L.A. are doing. . . but on a bigger level.

“Everything they do is for show. . .” (Matthew 23:5)

“Such people are not servants of our Lord Christ; they are slaves of their own personal interests. By smooth talk and glowing words they deceive unsuspecting people.” (Romans 16:18)

“But there were also false prophets in Israel, just as there will be false teachers among you. They will cleverly teach destructive heresies and even deny the Master who bought them. In this way, they will bring sudden destruction on themselves. Many will follow their evil teaching and shameful immorality. And because of these teachers, the way of truth will be slandered. In their greed they will make up clever lies to get hold of your money. But God condemned them long ago, and their destruction will not be delayed.” (2 Peter 2:1-3)

They will have a form of godliness, but deny the power that could make them godly. Stay away from people like that! They are the kind who worm their way into people’s homes and captivate weak women who are weighed down with sins and led astray by various desires (such women are forever following new teachings, but they are never able to understand the truth)” (2 Timothy 3:5-7)
