Edmund, King and Martyr, a Saxon Churchman and believer, King of East Anglia (855-870); taken prisoner by the Danes after a brave struggle, and, refusing life on condition of apostasy and vassalage, shot to death with arrows. His remains were translated solemnly under Canute (903) to the great Church of Bury St. Edmunds. -- November 20th.
