Reformed Churchmen

We are Confessional Calvinists and a Prayer Book Church-people. In 2012, we remembered the 350th anniversary of the 1662 Book of Common Prayer; also, we remembered the 450th anniversary of John Jewel's sober, scholarly, and Reformed "An Apology of the Church of England." In 2013, we remembered the publication of the "Heidelberg Catechism" and the influence of Reformed theologians in England, including Heinrich Bullinger's Decades. For 2014: Tyndale's NT translation. For 2015, John Roger, Rowland Taylor and Bishop John Hooper's martyrdom, burned at the stakes. Books of the month. 29 December 1809 A.D.  William Ewart Gladstone Born—Prime Minister & Devout Church of England Man

William Ewart Gladstone (1809 to 1898)

Anglican

Evangelical Prime Minister

William Ewart Gladstone was born in Liverpool, England. A man with strong spiritual convictions, he became Prime Minister of England. Elected to Parliament in 1832 (age 22), he held this seat for 65 years. He brought about many reforms within the British Commonwealth. A devout Anglican, he was an evangelical Christian, a humanitarian, a student of the Bible and a man of prayer. Gladstone sought to base all of his decisions on moral and spiritual grounds. Because of his spiritual life, many attacks were leveled at him. He was accused of immorality and other acts of wrong doing, but he outlived each attack.
