William Ewart Gladstone (1809 to 1898)
Anglican
Evangelical Prime Minister
William Ewart Gladstone was born in Liverpool,
England. A man with strong spiritual convictions, he became Prime Minister of
England. Elected to Parliament in 1832 (age 22), he held this seat for 65
years. He brought about many reforms within the British Commonwealth. A devout
Anglican, he was an evangelical Christian, a humanitarian, a student of the
Bible and a man of prayer. Gladstone sought to base all of his decisions on
moral and spiritual grounds. Because of his spiritual life, many attacks were
leveled at him. He was accused of immorality and other acts of wrong doing, but
he outlived each attack.
