Reformed Churchmen

We are Confessional Calvinists and a Prayer Book Church-people. In 2012, we remembered the 350th anniversary of the 1662 Book of Common Prayer; also, we remembered the 450th anniversary of John Jewel's sober, scholarly, and Reformed "An Apology of the Church of England." In 2013, we remembered the publication of the "Heidelberg Catechism" and the influence of Reformed theologians in England, including Heinrich Bullinger's Decades. For 2014: Tyndale's NT translation. For 2015, John Roger, Rowland Taylor and Bishop John Hooper's martyrdom, burned at the stakes. Books of the month. December 2014: Alan Jacob's "Book of Common Prayer" at: http://www.amazon.com/Book-Common-Prayer-Biography-Religious/dp/0691154813/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1417814005&sr=8-1&keywords=jacobs+book+of+common+prayer. Ligonier Baptyerian Ministries: Holy Week Resources

While we have immensely profited from Ligonier Ministries, now a Baptyerian affair after certain developments in their history, they never have been able to say anything about Biblical liturgy or "that old Anglican Prayer Book."  Why?  Ignorance of it and its history.  That is unacceptable. We are not about to accept instruction from John MacArthur, Steve Lawson, John Piper, Al Mohler, Alistair Begg or other Baptists on it.  Nor, from RC, Sr. or Jr., Sinclair Ferguson, Derek Thomas, Rick Phillips or others.  Nor from WTS, RTS or other schools.  Their Profs "just don't have it" on this score. Again, while we appreciate Ligonier Baptyerian Ministries, they have earned an appropriate chastisement.  But, they will not learn.

Holy Week Resources

Category: Ligonier Resources

This week is Holy Week. Therefore Christians and Christian families all over the world are paying particular attention to the work of Jesus Christ in His life, death, and resurrection.
Tweet this…there is more to be learned at the foot of the cross than anywhere else in the world. —J.C. Ryle
These are worthy topics for our consideration. Jesus’ accomplishment on the cross was not—as some suggest—simply God’s “Plan B” after the Fall. Instead, R.C. Sproul reminds us that “from all eternity, God determined that He would redeem for Himself a people, and that which He determined to do was, in fact, accomplished in the work of Jesus Christ, His atonement on the cross.”

To help you in your worshipful study this Holy Week, in addition to offering you the eBook edition of R.C. Sproul’s The Truth of the Cross for free (offer expires April 30, 2013) we have compiled a list of resources. We pray they will encourage you and lead you to praise the God who saves.
