22 January. 1662  Book of Common Prayer: Vincent, Martyr.


 #1535. The numbers are our’s from Foxe’s martyriology. Presbyter Valerius and his Deacon Vincent were chained and imprisoned by the Roman governor of Tarragona, Spain.  For an unknown reason, he let Valerius go, but racked the Deacon.  Vincent had joint-dislocation and died in prison of his injuries on January 22, 304.  As told by Mr. Foxe, pg. 34, in Foxe, John.  The New Foxe’s Book of Martyrs.  Gainesville, FL: Bridge-Logos Publishers, 2001.


Vincent, Martyr. A Spanish Deacon, of Saragossa, martyred with torture under Diocletian (A.D. 304); celebrated as "the invincible" as early as the time of St. Ambrose and St. Augustine. -- January 22nd.
