Dr. Machen’s Will

I spent some time copying more articles from THE PRESBYTERIAN today, over at Concordia Theological Seminary. Located some valuable articles from the years 1928, 1929 and 1937.  I hope to post many of those here in the near future. It is exhausting work, standing at a copier all day! So, recuperating this evening, here is a short piece published not long after the death of J. Gresham Machen.

DR. MACHEN’S WILL
[The Presbyterian 107.3 (21 January 1937): 4.]

The Rev. Dr. J. Gresham Machen left half his considerable estate to Westminster Seminary in Philadelphia. Giving $10,000 outright to the seminary, Dr. Machen provided that half of the balance, after certain bequests to his brothers and others were cared for, should be placed in the hands of five trustees to be held for the benefit of Westminster Seminary. Ten per cent of the residuary estate will go to the Independent Board. The will was drawn in 1935, before the establishing of The Presbyterian Guardian and before the organization of the new Church. The gross estate is estimated at $175,000.
