8 December. Day of Remembrance: 1662 Book of Common Prayer: Nativity of the Virgin Mary
Very
poor article, but we note it for the record. The day is noted in the BCP and we
do remember the Incarnation over and over--daily, e.g. Magnificat. The subject occurs in the Reformed Confessions as well.
Conception of the Virgin Mary; a festival connected with the Nativity
of the Virgin Mary;
a part of the same growth of the idea of the Immaculate Conception. Like that
festival, it was earlier in the East than in the West; said to have been
introduced into England by St. Anselm; but not held of obligation till the 15th
century. -- December 8th.
