October. Day of
Remembrance: 1662 Book of Common Prayer: Crispin the Martyr, 288 A.D.
Crispin, Martyr one
of the early missionaries in Gaul, companion of St. Denys, beheaded, according
to tradition, with his brother Crispian, A.D. 288. The brothers (like St. Paul)
maintained themselves by labour with their own hands, and, working as
shoemakers, became the patron Saints of the craft. The day is memorable in
English history as the day of the great victory of Agincourt, in 1415. --
October 25.
