Aelfsige I
(Died AD 959)

Bishop of Winchester
Archbishop of Canterbury
Died: AD 959

Aelfsige succeeded St. Aelfheah (Alphege the Bald) as Bishop of Winchester in AD 951. Seven years later, he was elevated to the position of Archbishop of Canterbury. However, he died of cold, whilst crossing the Alps, on his way to Rome to receive the pallium.
