Dr Benjamin Carson’s Address to the Prayer Breakfast
Dr Benjamin Carson’s biography is the stuff of legend and films. Born into terrible poverty, Carson is now the Director of Pediatric Neurosurgery at Johns Hopkins Hospital and the founder of the Carson Scholars Fund. A Seventh-Day Adventist, his views on creation were the source of controversy when he was invited to give the commencement address at Emory University last Spring.
His address is a little startling for its forthrightness. We might wince at his invocation of 2Chronicles 7:14 relative to the USA. America is an exceptional nation but it is not God’s national people but we should smile at his use of Proverbs, which seems more fitting in that setting since his remarks had more to do with policy than piety. Still, those of us who still think the Constitution should govern politics and policy in this country should be pleased with his critique of political correctness and his defense of liberty and the American character of his remarks.
