Advent 2012: "Lo He Comes With Clouds Descending" by the Lichfield Cathedral Choir
Another one for Advent 2012, replete with a robust theology and appropriate piety matching the old faith. Theological liberalism, the great obsurantistic force of the 20th century, cannot hide the beauty and power of the Gospel-Saviour, to whom everyone shall give an account (Is.45.23, for starters). Why do the liberals still hang around? They have nothing else but to live like worms and parasites on the coattails of an historic, grand and certain faith, His Majesty's. Here's another wonderful Advent hymn.
The choir of Lichfield Cathedral sing the lovely advent hymn "Lo ! He comes with clouds descending" . Words by Charles Wesley rewritten from the original text by John Cennick . The descant by the choristers during the last verse is absolutely stunning. All pictures are of Lichfield Cathedral.
Lo! He comes with clouds descending,
Once for favoured sinners slain;
Thousand thousand saints attending,
Swell the triumph of His train:
Hallelujah! Hallelujah!
God appears on earth to reign
Every eye shall now behold Him
Robed in dreadful majesty;
Those who set at naught and sold Him,
Pierced and nailed Him to the tree,
Deeply wailing, deeply wailing,
Shall the true Messiah see.
The dear tokens of His passion
Still His dazzling body bears;
Cause of endless exultation
To His ransomed worshippers;
With what rapture, with what rapture
Gaze we on those glorious scars!
Yea, amen; let all adore thee,
High on thine eternal throne;
Saviour, take the power and glory;
Claim the kingdoms for thine own:
Hallelujah! Hallelujah!
Thou shalt reign, and thou alone.
